Review of Cast Away (2000) by Trevor R — 09 Apr 2013
This is Zemeckis' best movie since 1988's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." Hanks (as a perfectly cast everyman) delivers one of his best performances, the plane crash sequence is absolutely devastating, and everything on the island is harrowing in its level of unflinching detail.
This is simply not an easy film to watch. Also, everything with Wilson was extremely moving, which is a minor miracle when you consider the material. Unfortunately, the story really stumbles at the end and it's a shame they don't stick the landing, because "Cast Away" could have been brilliant.
Instead, we'll just have to settle for really, really good.
