Review of Cast Away (2000) by Ross P — 18 Jan 2013

Cast Away's middle act is riveting, my heart was pounding during the aeroplane crash which is perhaps one of the most intense scenes of any film I have seen. I lost interest by the time Chuck had returned home, all of the risk, all of the suspense was gone at this point. Cast Away needed a punctual ending to leave us with the excitement and sympathy gained through watching Chuck suffer and ultimately survive. The drawn out final act only separated me more from the emotions I felt during the middle act.

Tom Hanks in an Academy Award nominated performance is immaculate and every bit convincing. His attempt to overcome adversity is a brutally terrifying test for his mind and body; it's fascinating and at times a little difficult to watch. This is a one man show orchestrated by an actor at the zenith of his craft.
