Review of Cast Away (2000) by Zanele J — 30 Dec 2012
By Zanele Jiane.
Chuck Nolan is in a wonderful husband, dedicated team leader stationed in the Soviet, he flies home in Memphis and his plan crashes after losing communication and has veered off course significantly for any rescue mission to even work.
After failed attempts to sail away in a small boat and after he realises that chances of being rescue are minimal he is left stranded on an island for a little over four years, with only a clock with wife's cherished picture for hope, a torch, skating shoes for a knife, and a dress as a fishing net, a cave to shield him off the elements, with these, he settles in not so comfortably in the tropical island.
We realise he is smart as he builds a calender system on the cave walls and our hopes of seeing coming up with a plan begins to thaw.
Fate winks at him four years later and an idea is formed in his head on how to escape and builds a boat that can take the gigantic waves and soon afterwards is being rescued. The wife is now remarried and has a baby and this adds to his sense of loss he is already feeling, but later in the movie we realise that Mrs. Nolan is deeply in love with him and the chances of getting back together are as wide as the ocean that carried him home.
The movie is enjoyable and has some memorable scences that lingers on long after the movie ends.
A terrific accompishment.
Highly recommended.
