Review of Cast Away (2000) by Russell C — 04 Jan 2015
Cast Away is too long and it has many boring moments on the island, but is redeemed by its ending which is incredibly grounded, deeply moving and very satisfying. It also has a solid direction from Robert Zemeckis, often beautiful score and a powerhouse performance from Tom Hanks who once again shines in a demanding role.
It has a solid three arc structure with character introduction, the island itself and home comeback in which the heartbreaking outcome rings true and that is why it rises above the level of many other movies with similar subject matter.
