Review of Casshern (2004) by Jordan L — 30 Oct 2007
This is what I would call a quintessential anime-esque live action movie. A story line that seems like it was supposed to be a multi instalment mini series compressed into two hours, and an ending that makes absolutley no sence. But it's a hell of a lot of fun to watch non the less.
The visuals are not the best, but they surely are imaginative. If american film makers were to put half this shit up on screen with their skills, we'd have some kick ass movies. There is so much on screen that it's freaken mind-blowing. Make movies like Blade Runner and The Fifth Element look half assed in the design department...but like I said the visual quality is a bit sub-par.
Even though the production values may be a bit at the low end to high budget American blockbusters, the acting is not. The acting is top notch.
But the best part is all the anime styled shots. I wish film makers globaly would pay more attention to anime, because you can find some very cool, and very beautifuly composed shots, which this movie is filled to the brim with.
It may not be remotley coherent, the ending will leave your scratching your head, but be damn if your not entertained.
