Review of Casshern (2004) by J D — 04 Nov 2007
Besides a few episodes of "Dragonball Z" and the movie "Akira", my anime knowledge/experience is pretty limited, but I think it's safe to say that this could be considered a live-action anime movie.
The plot is complicated, lots of cool robots, and some of the best action scenes I've seen in a while (some of the shots even have the requisite anime/manga motion lines). The art direction on this one is top-notch, you can never go wrong with a giant doomsday robot, and while I was a bit confused at the beginning, the ending tied things together nicely.
Besides being fun to look at, there's a larger theme here about genocide and terrorism that makes the climax that much more powerful. If you're a sci-fi fan, this is definitely one to check out.
