Review of Casshern (2004) by Rika R — 08 Dec 2008
While certain aesthetic and storytelling decisions might have irked me, they seem distinctly Japanese, and I can't rightly criticize a flower for not being a cat. I think the movie largely accomplished what it set out to be: a stylish reinterpretation of a classic series.
Some of the moments I enjoyed the most were those that borrowed heavily from old-school sensibilities while retaining a modern approach to camerawork, etc. The ending montage I think operated very well, even completely divorced from the rest of the movie.
