Review of Casshern (2004) by Jessicah-Lynn P — 21 Mar 2010
Stylish but overcrowded mish mash of about eighteen different genres, as though the original aim was to create a steampunk-flavoured treatise on the futility of war but somebody pushed in a rejected Power Rangers plot at the last minute.
You'll find you have little idea what's going on for great tracts of the film thanks to long, dialogue-free artistic sequences, lots of typically layered and poetic Japanese dialogue and some of the most comically long-winded death scenes this side of the Final Fantasy games.
