Review of Cassandra's Dream (2007) by Connor _ — 22 Mar 2010
Woody Allen's scene-by-scene writing style makes this tragedy a classic criminal drama, something most of Hollywood has forgotten how to do. Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell, starring as two financially screwed brothers who've always got each other's back, both giving great performances.
Then comes Tom Wilkinson, as the wealthy Uncle Howard, and offers to make all their problems go away and make their ambitious dreams come true; all with one price: kill Martin Burns. Farrell, already a gambling-addicted alchoholic on mysterious pills, goes manicly depressed and shaken up by Wilkinson's request.
McGregor manages to keep his head while falling depply in love with a beautiful actress, Hayley Atwell. Allen's magnificent writing is something you no longer see in films, and is greatly missed. 8.
