Review of Cassandra's Dream (2007) by Brian S — 21 Oct 2011
I will forever remember this as the film that finally convinced me that Woody Allen is past it. Sorry, Woody, but PLEASE stop making films. I won't watch them, but the important point is that every new movie you make tarnishes your past record. This one was just bad film-making, for instance. You had a good cast and they acted well, but the writing was so trite, the screenplay so lifeless, and that ending... what were you thinking? Did anyone not see the twist coming? And what's worse, we don't even see it! It cuts away right at the climax! It was clear, too, that the *directing* on this was crap, resulting in a lifeless muck of grated seaweed of a film that threatened to put this viewer into a deep sleep at every turn.
Please, just stop. You should have stopped before "Curse of the Jade Scorpion," but you kept picking at the wound with turkeys like this and "Christina Barcelona." Cut it out. Please. As for me, I will never watch another Woody Allen film made after about 1995. It's just too painful.
