Review of Casper Meets Wendy (1998) by Rebecca H — 15 Sep 2009
Considering the first film was not great, and the first sequel was so dire it could kill, this second sequel in the Casper franchise did not have much going for it. And I have no idea who Wendy is - a friendly witch, apparently. So probably because I was expecting the worst, it isn't that bad. For a cheap kids' film.
The opening is bizarre, as a spaceship hovers over a baseball pitch - and then turns out to be the ghostly trio - because for some reason they can turn into a spaceship. What? This 'ability' never comes back, and the scene goes nowhere. However, the plot does turn up and it is just about all right. Casper and his uncles go on holiday, coincidently to the same resort where Wendy (Hilary Duff) and her aunts are hiding from the most powerful witch in the world who wants to kill Wendy. Casper and Wendy make friends even though apparently ghosts and witches hate each other. This is pretty much Wendy's film, and Casper doesn't get much to do, presumably because he's just not that interesting. And as okay as the film is, it does get monotonous and in the end, it is a bit pointless and tedious. However, it is better than the previous instalment and for that, I am willing to forgive a lot.
