Review of Casino (1995) by Matthew N — 06 Jun 2011
Casino would have been better received if it hadn't followed so closely to both the release and style of Goodfellas, which is the superior film. As it stands, Casino is a good film, sometimes even really good, with good acting, good writing and good directing, but it's never great or groundbreaking.
Thankfully, the talents of Scorsese make it at least a worthy companion piece to Goodfellas. It provides fascinating insight into the mob's ties with Vegas, although sometimes a bit too thorough during its three-hour runtime, and that look inside amounts to its biggest asset.
