Review of Casino (1995) by Adam Z — 29 Jul 2013
Scorsese decided "Goodfellas" needed a sequel of sorts and cranked out this Vegas mob story that is a dark spectacle of excess. DeNiro plays the lead smooth like a well fit suit, Pesci's Little Nicky is money and Sharon Stone's outstandingly psychotic hustler wife leaves you bitter and enraged in the last 45 minute downward spiral to hell.
While Goodfellas is definitely the superior film, the manic sense of self destruction that plagues the characters, lead brilliantly by Scorsese's expertise in using music to move each scene into the next, adds to the experience.
