Review of Cashback (2007) by Archibald T — 22 Mar 2011
Ben suffers from insomnia after breaking up with his girlfriend Suzy. He feels that he couldn't make her happy and wanted to break up. Then he wallows around in self-pity and regret. He wants her back, but unfortunately she's with somebody else already. In order to kill time, due to his insomnia, he gets a job working the night shift at a supermarket where he falls for another girl named Sharon.
While working at this market, he uses his imagination to "freeze" time and undress many women. He draws them, admires them and it all soon becomes very real to the fact that he can actually freeze time. His voice over narration is constant and I wish It wasn't because it really doesn't let the film breathe on it's own. I don't need to be explained every feeling that the main character is having. That shit was annoying and self-indulgent to the point where I wanted to pull my ears off.
There are some good points though, like the direction which is well done and Emilia Fox who plays Sharon. The story is a VERY VERY generic type where the main character comes across his old flame, they kiss and the other girl gets angry, but in the end that other girl becomes THE ONE. So everything ends happily and even in the snow, frozen in time caught between the moment.
