Review of Casablanca (1943) by Kenneth P — 09 Feb 2014
Casablanca is the quintessential movie, my personal favorite, and the basis on that classical movies are compared. Off all of the old great movie titles that get tossed around (Maltese Falcon, Citizen Cane, Gone With the Wind), Casablanca does the best job of standing the test of time.
The movie sets the gold standard, Nazis as the antagonists, the brooding bachelor as the protagonist (Humphrey Bogart), and the most beautiful woman on the planet (Ingrid Bergman) as the object of his desire, Casablanca delivers on every level and is there is no wonder as to why it ends up near the top of AFI list of the greatest movies of all time almost 75 years after its initial release.
