Review of Casablanca (1943) by Tanner B — 29 Apr 2016
Casablanca (1942) ????
One of the best Hollywood movies of all-time, a gripping, stylish noir about elegant Bogart, and his love affair with former lover Bergman and tricky relationship with German's during the days of WWII. Some consider this to have the finest screenplay ever written; one of those rare films that actually improves on each viewing. Masterful script, direction by Curtiz, fine B&W photography, super-great acting by ultra-suave Bogie, the always beautiful Ingrid, and one can't forget about eccentric Rains, with crackling dialogue to spare. Picture, Curtiz, and Script all won richly deserved Academy Awards. And who could ever forget "As Time Goes By"?
