Review of Casa de Mi Padre (2012) by Aaron W — 30 Mar 2012
Fucking silly, this movie is. To be honest, this movie would not work if it didn't know it was silly. It reminds me of the Grindhouse Tarantino movies with it's style. Abrubt cuts, obvious continuity errors and free will for its cast.
Yes, it is ENTIRELY in Spanish with English subtitles but that does not stop the laughs, because we know what Will Ferrell can be up to, regardless of what language he speaks. I found the movie ridiculous in the sense of its ridiculousness.
There is a scene where they drive and park at a bar, and it is clearly shot with Hot Wheels cars, Yet, it's not entirely obvious, because we are watching something that is working as good as it can with millions but pretending it has little money (it is not little, this is a Will Ferrell movie).
All in all, it is surprisingly well written as far as romantic movies go, but the fact that it is not intended to be made serious sort of ruins it. Will Ferrell saves this movie. I guarantee if it was Jim Carrey, that I would have left disappointed.
