Review of Casa de Mi Padre (2012) by Apkelly — 03 Feb 2020
Watching Will Ferrell as Armando Alvarez try to roll his own cigarettes throughout the movie makes for laughs in the very first instance. There's humour everywhere...I don't speak Spanish and know so very little about Mexican telenovelas yet found myself engrossed in a feature which is genuinely funny throughout.
..perhaps those with a disposition to offer bland excuse for their lack of a sense of humour or observation...giving low marks as though they weren't in the same room while the film was playing. It's beyond me how low a rating it has received when all I see is artistry and a versatile lead who may only know his lines for most part phonetically but still delivers them convincingly and with the standard we have come to know and expect from Will.
The casting is fabulous...and yes...weirdness is a given......just love it enough to give 10/10 because it deserves a more realistic mark from one who loves film and recognises art when he sees it.
