Review of Casa de Mi Padre (2012) by Lisette B — 08 Aug 2012
Absolutely hilarious, Casa de mi Padre reminds me of a mixture of the old Mexican ranchera movies I used to watch with my Dad, telenovelas, and a wee bit of grindhouse style. The movie is deadpan camp, complete with fake backgrounds and horses, and has a few nods to Mexican magic realism.
And listening to Will Ferrell speak Spanish is pretty funny, too, mainly because he'd emphasize the wrong syllable or word. Pedro Armendariz Jr, who plays the patriarch, pokes fun of Ferrell's speaking style for a little tongue-in-cheek humor and Gael GarcÃa Bernal is perfection as the drug lord La Onza.
