What can be said at this point about the Cars franchise? "Cars" was basically "Doc Hollywood," "Cars 2" was, well, not good, and "Cars 3" is the Rocky franchise in one movie. As such, the story, the writing, and the characters are all predictable in a pretty boring way.

Perhaps the greatest irony in this movie is the cynicism portrayed at the technological aspects used to make the new racers formidable opponents. Like Ivan Drago (minus the illegal supplements), the new racers train in state-of-the-art facilities while Lightning McQueen figures the best way to train is to go back to basics in the Cars universe equivalent of punching meat in a freezer. The irony exists for two reasons: 1) the entire reason that there is a third Cars movie in the first place is that the numbers dictated the amount of money generated from this movie would be profitable for the studio, regardless of the quality of the story; number-crunching is the ONLY reason for the existence of Cars 2 and 3, not heart or gumption! And 2) the existence and dominance of the *Pixar studios itself* is about how technology redefined motion picture entertainment since the release of Toy Story in 1995. If any studio should embrace the wonders and the possibilities of technological advancement, it's frickin' PIXAR!
