Review of Carrie (2013) by Kendyl C — 12 Apr 2014
In similarity to Gus Van Sant's 1998 Psycho "reimagining", Kimberly Pierce's Carrie has no purpose; it's a naive recreation of the original story we've seen once or twice onscreen again after the classic 70s film that's as forgettable as its.
.. well, everything. It's unintentionally laughable -- Moore and Moretz, despite being phenomenal actresses, just don't feel comfortable with their roles. And of course, no horror remake could do without the sloppy incorporation of faux-R material such as unfitting F bombs and a completely misplaced PG-13 sex scene.
I'm not even convinced I should go into detail, because Carrie is just another generic Hollywood remake that's underwhelming in its attempt to recreate one of Stephen King's most iconic stories (instead, it's mainly focused on boring cinematic elements).
It has no spirit and it certainly has no scares, it's meaningless.
