Review of Carol (1990) by Hugo G — 06 Feb 2016
9.7/10.
This was one of those movies that since it premiered last year at Cannes I was very excited about it, and so with all the accolades it was receiving, I was sure it would de a very good film. Although at first I wasn't as sure it would meet my high expectations, once the love story got going it really won me over. But also Cate Blanchett was radiant and so beautiful to look at, while her performance was excellent as well, it was impossible to look away from her. Also Rooney Mara in a more introvert character, she was also outstanding and once you saw Therese growing out of her shell she really shinned. In the end it left me borderline tearing, and with so many encountered emotions, because it was such a complex but beautiful ride that you couldn't want them to be apart. Even though I'm a way it felt like a maybe ambiguous ending, based on what had previously happened, you rooted for them. Overall it was a very beautiful movie, in the way it was shot, written and performed. It was one of the best movies of 2015, and a really outstanding love story that looks and feels as real as it can be, excellent work from Todd Haynes.
