Review of Carol (1990) by John E — 27 Dec 2015
I haven't anticipated a movie like this in a long time, but OMG was excruciatingly boring. Blanchett was flawless as her character and the most redeeming part, except the writing and set up was so weird and awkward I found myself wanting to stand up and yell "what??" through the first 30-40 minutes and then again when the second date uhaul was taken to new heights.
It pains me to say any movie with Blanchett and Rooney as lovers is not good but it just really was so unbelievable and weird in not a good way that I just can't recommend it. Carrying on the tradition of bad lesbian movies, this one with great set design and acting, and somehow still not good.
I understand the longing and the isolation of the time was the point of the pacing and being uncomfortable also the point but it was coupled with things the felt too weird and remote. like the first date and moving in after two weeks.
I never bought the characters liking each other.
