Review of Carol (1990) by John M — 11 Jan 2016
Lesbians in the 1950s with Cate Blanchette as the lead is great and traditional material for Oscar bait, but Haynes puts this movie more under the radar with his restrained look at a lifestyle and a feeling, treating the relationship more like a memory in a time capsule than a big deal or event of any kind.
It's beautiful all the way through, if not overly melodramatic at parts.
