Review of Carnival of Souls (1962) by Jeff M — 07 Jan 2011
This is a very odd--pretty slow movie. It had been recommended to me by several people who called it a "horror movie classic." It was about what I expected: odd. As several other reviewers have said, it is essentially a Twilight Zone episode that has been padded into a full-length feature.
There are several scenes that are pretty creepy, and they did a good job building the suspense, but after a while I just wanted something--anything--to happen. Probably one of the biggest problems is that, today, the same idea has been done so many times that it was really predictable.
I imagine it had a lot more impact back in 1962.
