Review of Carnal Knowledge (1971) by Paul D — 17 Jan 2012
Interesting analysis of chauvinism and masculinity, but the cinematography and direction make this feel like a made for TV movie. Although groundbreaking for its dark depiction of sexuality and relationships, aside from Nicholson's performance this didn't really age that well.
Other efforts by Mike Nichols, specifically Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Closer, tackle similar ideas and tones much more effectively.
