Review of Carnage (2011) by Scott C — 05 May 2012
An actors' movie, based on a Broadway play, a true drawing room drama ... in that the film is one extended scene, played out in real time, in one room ... quite possibly a drawing room. Two couples meet at one couple's apartment to discuss a fight between their sons.
Tensions surface, then escalate, then turn absurd as alliances between the four adults continually shift. All four actors are outstanding, but Jodie Foster kills, and John C. Reilly delivers some great lines.
There is vomit. There is destruction. Souls are laid bare. Carnage delivers a few good laughs, but mostly it makes you squirm. And none of it means much, which is why I can't rate it any higher.
