Review of Carnage (2002) by Randall Q — 17 Jun 2012
I've never seen the play. But it has Christoph Waltz and John C. Reily in the same movie. Which is awesome. The solid talent of Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster made this a must-see for me ever since mine eyes laid witness to the preview. And Polanski directing. Cool.
So I came in expecting to enjoy Carnage, and enjoy Carnage I thoroughly did. It fulfilled my expectations almost entirely...but unfortunately, that includes the areas I expected it to fail at. They aren't many, but they are there...and they are story related, so I won't spoil them here.
It's shot in the style of other plays-turned-movies, such as The Big Kahuna. Nothing fancy here. One setting, all dialogue, no action. When good actors are involved, this kind of thing is right up my alley, but those expecting a zany, out of control Police Squad style comedy might want to sit this one out.
