Review of Cargo (2009) by Steve G — 13 Feb 2011
Real science-fiction-movies are rare ones. The serious ones like 2001: Space Odyssey like thing. Cargo is serious sci-fi-thriller made in Germany. Concept is nice ... Earth is uninhabitable and mankind lives in huge spacestation.
Spacestation that is extremely crowded, cold, wet and infested with deseases. Rich people have moved to Rhea, paradise like planet that poor people can only dream of. Movie mainly tells about this young woman doctor who takes job in cargovessel to pay for her trip to Rhea, where her sister lives already.
Most of the 4 year journey crew is in suspended animation with only one at a time awake. On doctor's watch she starts to hear voices and feels that there is someone else too awake. And then starts the thriller part.
Movie isn't actionpacked, it doesn't have gory effects and it isn't a rollercoaster ride. It's slow moving but it's sets are build with good imagination and lot's of love. Story is gripping until things start to resolve and the very ending is even a bit silly.
Still nice to see hardcore-science-fiction-movie made in Europe ... specially as spectacular looking as this was.
