Review of Carandiru (2003) by Steve S — 29 Mar 2010
A Brazilian-Argentinian movie about prisoner's life in a famous CARANDIRU prison in São Paulo. A doctor wants to work in prison on an AIDS program.
THe movie is shown from his perspective as well as prisoners.
Well directed by Hector Babenco (Argentinian) and cinematography by Walter Carvalho (Brazylian).
Very realistic, very dramatic, very convincing...
Carandiru was one of the largest and most violent prisons in Latin America...8000 prisoners lived there in a space designed just for 4000...
The events that happen in final scenes of the movie happened in rea and are known as Carandiru Massacre.
R-rated movie for strong language, violence and sexual content...
Good movie but maybe not for everyone ...
