Review of Caramel (2007) by Mithila Minxy K — 20 May 2008
Smooth, soothing and deeply engrossing. Labaki shows you how easy it is to depict Life in its entirety and intertwine lives at the same time. Labaki is also a fine actor and can emote realism with easy grace.
Caramel encompasses genres and has everything that life has to offer - questions on religion, faith, love, humour et al. Watch it for the picturesque scapes of Beirut and to learn more about women. This is not a chick flick.
It is renegade in it's manner of female depiction and totally simple yet sophisticated.
