Review of Caramel (2007) by Noraida H — 19 Apr 2009
Commendable effort considering its a debut directorial attempt. The storyline is nothing to shout about but the way the storytelling is done is quite tasteful. I like the scene when the policeman is watching the main female character, Layale, from afar, observing her whilst she talks on the phone and peeps out from the blinds of the saloon.
Another favourite scene is the talk between mother and daughter the night before Nisrine's wedding - it did move me to tears a bit. And it was quite educational learning about the location of the movie - Beirut.
