Review of Capturing the Friedmans (2003) by Kevin F — 12 Mar 2008
A completely devastating and powerful documentary. It's not always 100% neutral, but it definitely leaves you questioning the notion of the relativity of "good" and "bad," especially in the father's case.
The fact that the family actually videotaped themselves during such a horrific crisis is both captivating and heartbreaking. The documentary is beautifully and smartly edited and directed, and to see an American family torn to shreds is one of the most wholly devastating things I've ever seen.
Definitely one of the best documentaries of the decade.
