Review of Captivity (2007) by Darren D — 01 Aug 2008
Captivity's heart is in the right place, but, unfortunately, it doesn't have the spine to be what it wants to be. Aiming for Hostel, Captivity never reaches its potential because it never gains the courage to actually harm its heroine.
A few gross-out moments, sadly, do not make up for the vast amount of time we watch her mope. And mope. And mope. And talk to the guy in the next cell. And mope with him. I suppose if you don't have a strong stomach for gore, Captivity would indeed be scary.
As it is, however, a more fitting title would have been Hostel Jr.
