Review of Captivity (2007) by Kyle B — 03 Jan 2012
Not even the gore can save this flop. attempting to ride the saw and hostel train, captivity is no more then a copy cat with a lame plot. Cuthbert places a model, or at least we can assume as much, since apparently in New York, every cab as the exact same advertisement on the side.
.. and if the girl was this famous, why would she not have any one to watch her to make sure she doesnt say...get kidnapped? plothole after plothole, and a weak twist makes this thing completely unentertaining.
Yes there is one scene that does get a gag reflex, I will give them a nod for that, and great little scene with her dog...i won't say any more, n end, just as asian inspired horror dominated early millenium horror (ala the ring, the grudge, the eye)Needless to say, there won't.
..well lets hope that there won't be a captivity 2, it was also but all in all, the torture genre is quickly runing out of ideas. It's also strange to see lionsgate invest in a film so similar to their real cashcow Saw, whose 4th film is due out in october.
all in all, I know this is a harsh rating, but the scares are lame, the horror is eh... and the story almost had Uwe Boll written over it...well maybe it wasn't that bad. This is a real shame, since Cuthbert stared in the girl next door which was great, and House of Wax that was actually pretty decent, looks like she took a step backwards.
.. any way.. if you need to see this, wait for blockbuster or netflix, or... cable tv in 20 years.
