Review of Captains Courageous (1937) by Eva L — 13 Apr 2007
What a beautifully inspiring film from the highly acclaimed director Victor Fleming. Spencer Tracy probably gives his best performance as the optimistic Portugese fisher. Here we have a story of an important son/father-figure relationship (I feel this isn't stressed enough in our day in age).
It is also a triumph of the human spirit as we see snotty Harvey transform into the courageous, tender-hearted fisher that he becomes. The story is brilliant and a timeless one at that.
