Review of Captains Courageous (1937) by Russell G — 17 Nov 2007
Kiplard wrote all types of Boy Adventure stories. This one was fantastic. No pirates, or jungle adventures. This one is et on the fishing boats and as a result plays all the better in a real world setting.
Maudlin as you would expect a film from this time to be, it still totally works. Great stuff. Spencer Tracy is a joy to watch, and Freddie Bartholomew holds his own with all the actors.
