Captain underpants is a stylized film, that stays true to the comical, lighthearted source material. It provides enjoyment for kids and adults alike. For children it provides goofy, lovable characters and childish potty humor, while for adults it also offers meta jokes about modern society or of the film itself.

Overall, the films animation is buttery smooth and very specifically stylized, which really sets it apart from similar child films. The film is also very self aware, and it makes sure to let you know that it is.

Despite the present pacing issues and sometimes generic storytelling, captain underpants is a great children's film along with quality entertainment for adults as well. So far the best children's film of the year.
