Review of Captain Phillips (2013) by Kyle C — 26 Jul 2015
Not being a Tom Hanks fan, this was not my first choice of film but the trailer sold me on it enough to see it. It was quite good, very well acted, and well shot, but way, WAY to many subtitles for me, I don't mind it for a minute or two, but this was every time the pirates were talking to each other which was very often.
Also, there wasn't much of a story, they hijack the ship, kidnap the captain, and then are out on the water, in the life boat, for what seemed like days. And then, it ends. I can't really fault Tom Hanks for the downfall because he is actually very strong, possibly his best performance ever and that's saying a lot coming from me because I didn't like pretty much everything he has done (with the exception of 2), also, the running time is a little long (not Great Gatsby long) but it could have been cut by 15-20 min and still got the same point across.
It's not horrible by any standards and there isn't much wrong with it but it's really only worth watching once because nothing really stands out other the Hanks' performance. MILD RECOMMENDATION for Tom Hanks and for being worth a watch once.
