Review of Captain Phillips (2013) by Rupert M — 30 Nov 2014
Not quite sure why this movie was so heavily lauded. Tom Hanks gives a decent performance throughout but he becomes truly exceptional during that last four minutes. Otherwise, it's a standard hostage drama, with all the usual archetypes, from the good cop/bad cop villains to the strong, silent military men in crisp blue uniforms who rescue them.
A decent film but hardly a great one.
