Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) by Irma V — 22 Jul 2006

Loved the book but this movie leaves much to be desired. However, the cinematography is beautiful and the sex scene (although it's short) is sensual. I usually love Nicolas Cage's roles in films, but in this movie he totally sucked.

The accents were terrible. The cast was miscast, for e.g Cage is an American playing an Italian, who neither looks the part, Cruz is Spanish playing Greek also the characters are too stiff, they're acting without feeling.

which she can almost pass for. I really wanted to like this movie, but this whole movie is a big mess, would have been better if it were done in a greek and had subtitled with an entirely different cast.

I gave the movie 2 stars because I'm a true romantic and I love a happy ending and this movie displays a favorite theme of mine, that true love never dies.....
