Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) by Andy S — 30 Aug 2008
"There have been many massacres in this land" intones John Hurt's character from under his unconvincing moustache. But perhaps no massacre was worse than the massacre of Louis De Berniere's book in this trite adaptation which loses the novel's poignancy and leaves in its stead a set of unconnected 'big scenes' and all the feeling of a Guinness commercial.
