Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) by Grant S — 28 Mar 2010
Had great potential but ultimately was fairly average. Started off really well - the scenery, the history, the character sketching, the scene-setting. The movie had a light-heartedness that made it enjoyable to watch.
However, from about 2/3rds through, when everthing should have brought to point, it raced to some conclusions, and just drifted in other areas. The light-heartedness disappeared, which was understandable, but the drama was fairly contrived.
As you would figure from his, pacing was pretty bad.
Not bad, but not good either. Ultimately you'll be disappointed, as you'll be sucked in by the great first 80 minutes or so, then have your hopes dashed by the remaining 60 minutes.
