Finally saw Michael Curtiz' "Captain Blood," from 1935, which defined the Pirate Movie genre and made stars of Errol Flynn (in his debut) and Olivia DeHavilland, as well as starting composer Erich Korngold's career.
Jack Sparrow and the Dread Pirate Roberts derive from Dr Peter Blood. Warner Bros shot this masterpiece for just $1 million, thanks to stock footage from three silent films. Genre-defining, transcendent and Essential.
