Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Kapil P — 28 Apr 2014
Only saw this after Avengers Assemble and a day before the Winter Soldier. Have to say it is a great film set back in the 1940's. Solid origin story that chronicles the rise of an idealistic man who initially fails at enlisting as a soldier in the US Army, due to poorer health, but gets put onto a super soldier program to make him Captain America.
Chris Evans is superb as the weaker guy with strong morals, someone you can easily sympathise with. The story is told in a good pace and keeps to the 1940's which is fantastically brought to life, with fashion styles etc. The producers sure did their research. The only downside is how very little screen time The Red Skull gets, could have expanded on his back story and made a better showdown with him and Cap'. But that didn't hinder it much.
Overall great film, great origin story and a superb ending that will bring Captain America to modern day and pave way for the Avengers and sequel. Be sure to stay till end of both credits for a bonus scene and a teaser for Avengers!
