Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by David L — 28 Nov 2016
One of the more less appealing Marvel hero films in my opinion, simply because there's nothing special about the main character, he just seems a normal guy. If anything one could argue I could relate to this story, as he actually starts off as a lean and scrawny weakling that would just get trounced in the army.
However, when science comes knocking on the door, that guise soon disappears to be replaced by an ultra fit super soldier designed to be the saviour of the world. Funnily enough, that's exactly what happens as he jumps straight from battle to battle, often led by his heart rather than his head, and seems able to dodge every bullet going despite not possessing any real form of special power.
The story is not that strong but it's just a usual tale of good vs evil, where evil wants world domination. The villain looks the part, but isn't all that, which is proven when he meets his end rather too easily.
I can't really pick too many faults in this, but I guess I just found it all a bit dull and unoriginal. Marvel normally use such imagination in their creation of characters but these ones were far too ordinary in my eyes.
It's just a dude with a big shield - wow!!! Don't be put off by this as there's clearly something that people enjoy in these movies otherwise why else would there have been sequels and Avengers spin off movies with him at the forefront?! It's just that I wouldn't be rushing to buy this, although having said that, I wouldn't exactly have a strong case against watching the other releases either.
