Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Spadenx — 01 Jan 2012
I did enjoy it for the most part and I thought it was a good comic book movie. Hugo Weaving was a great villian and Tommy Lee Jones was a solid supporting actor too. I thought it ended good too and it worked perfectly to set up how the Captain came into the new time period without really messing anything up or giving a stupid explaination for it either. However there are some problems that I had with it.
1. Chris Evans is a rather poor lead. He does get better somewhat later on in the film but he just isnt a satisfying lead in this film at all.
2. I hated how the action scenes not only looked painfully obviously fake but they were slowed down in an attempt to make it look cool when really it looked trash. Id have rathed let the action scenes play out in real time then try to patheticly re-create an action scene from 300.
3. The plot didnt really satisfy you. It was good enough to keep you watching without really thinking of it or asking questions but once it was over, You realize how shallow it actually is and how good of a job they did at covering it up.
Overall it was a good comic book movie but it had its flaws.
