Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Shamar L — 19 Apr 2016
A classic period piece film that introduce Steve Rogers aka: Captain America into The Marvel Cinematic Universe quite fittingly, while Iron Man was the first film released. Chronologically Captain America: The First Avenger is where the MCU really begins much like the comics.
I enjoyed that the film got you highly invested in the character of Steve Rogers Pre-Super Soldier serum, the patriotism and heart of Rogers is enduring through the film thanks to the performance by Chris Evans.
Working alongside an all-star cast Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Philips. The action sequences are very retro yet cool in style and tone.
The music has a nice militaristic theme to it yet it doesn't take you out of the film in fact it's inspiring particular Cap's heroic march. I loved the design of the 1940's and how it brings elements from the comics into the film seamlessly integrated.
The look of Cap's uniform and shield is a prefect representations of blending both the fantastic with realistic appeal. The tie in to The Avengers is handled better than Iron Man 2, When Fury appears and talks to Cap after 70 year deep freeze it a nice transition into the modern world without it appearing shoe-in for the sake of continuity.
