Review of Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) by Raul V — 22 Aug 2010
Seems like too many people missed this one when it came out in the theaters. The Academy didn't recognize it at all come awards time. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this doc for all those who are even remotely concerned with the current (as well as the future) economic climate in this country.
Pol-i-tricks aside, this film dives fairly deep into the history of this country's financial institutions & practices: wealth accumulation, wealth manipulation, monetary policies, de-regulations, taxation rates (the richest people paid nearly 90% of their wealth in taxes during the period after WWII & were still fuckin' RICH), risky banking ventures, housing bubbles (& how they started), & of course - the many prophets over the decades who were paid little attention.
I know there's a shitload of people out there who LOVE to hate Michael Moore & what he attempts to do with his films. For those I say: Take a couple of hours of your time AWAY from Fox News, Limbaugh, O'Reiley, Hannity, Beck, & the like & actually watch a flick BEFORE you critique it.
Unfortunately, his films ("Roger & Me", "The Big One", "Bowling For Columbine", "Fahrenheit 9/11", "Sicko", & this one) have rung a little too true for some.
..makes them feel uncomfortable...& a little too biased for others...those leaning towards the right side of logic & reason. Fuck it! It's still more informative than most of the shit that comes out of Hollywood or the fake-ass news media.
Stop sleepin' people!
