Review of Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) by Jiana W — 08 Aug 2011
Say what you will about Michael Moore, but his documentaries are still thought-provoking. "Capitalism: A Love Story" explains to us through interviews, comedic videos, and stock footage about how our country got to be where it is financially, and why so many Americans are suffering in this economy while a miniscule 1% own much of this county's wealth and barely give anything back. Because of the fact that I had been researching this subject matter for a while now, I find the movie to be pretty accurate although I'm aware it's Michael Moore and there's some slant to this somewhere.
But like someone else said, even if 1/2 of this film is slanted, the rest still leaves something for us to worry about. Moore opens his film with an old video of a presentation about ancient Rome and and it's clear he believes that if the U.S. keeps following this course of the wealthy having everything and the rest having little or nothing, that we can go in the way of Rome and there is some truth in the parellels between our societies.
His talks of "worker revolt" may sound, like some, to be socialist. I don't consider myself to be socialist but I wholly agreed and rooted for the little guys standing up to these government people trying to evict folks from their homes. What's going on in this country is ethically, morally *wrong* and it is my hope that we do not see this when it's much too late to turn things around. This movie highlights why it is so important to vote.
Some will blow this film off because, hey, it's Michael Moore. And they will do it to their detriment. Watch it.
